The Main Thing

Written by on 19/02/2020

The first sermon I ever preached was entitled “The Main Thing.” In those days I thought that when you preached a good word and you could say that you were “hearing from God” that you were ready for ministry and that you were “good to go.”

Little did I know, that I would still need to keep the main thing the central focus of my life, every moment of my life in order to be able to maintain any significant anointing.

What is the main thing? The main thing is Christ in Me. The main thing is becoming the image that God intended for me to be since the first Adam was created. You see, when mankind lost his way to sin, and chose to depart from the Vine (Jesus), man lost the very ability to live. Man has thought for years, that because he is breathing in oxygen and walking around eating, drinking and working, that he is alive. Life is not only the ability to breath in oxygen, it the ability to be sustained by the only one who gives life.

You are actually dead as long as you are not connected to the Vine. Let’s look at what the gospel of John 15 has to say about this in the words of Jesus, the Vine Himself “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.  Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.  Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.   I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.  If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Here is a branch’s fate if it is cut off from its life force: he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. The fate is death. Just as a branch which is cut off from the parent tree is withered and by the end of the day its’ leaves and sap is dried and it has lost its luster, so too is a person who has departed from the “main thing” which is to stay connected to the vine which is Christ.

So many believe that the main thing in Christianity is to be able to sing, preach or do something of importance in the church building. The point of knowing Jesus is not for us to “do” or perform, but to “be.” We must become. We can do many things that we are not, but we should first be and then do.

The earth is waiting for the Sons of God to be the Sons of God. When we manifest as Sons, we will in fact, by our lives, live the express image of the godhead.
